What is Clean Access
and why are we using it?
Cisco Clean Access is a Network Admission
Control (NAC) product that uses the network infrastructure to enforce
security policy compliance on all devices seeking to access MC network
computing resources. The NAC Appliance, authenticates users, and will also
remediate wired, wireless, and remote users and their machines prior to
network access.
Once logged in to the left, users will be propmted to
install the Cisco Clean Access Agent. With installation of the Cisco
Clean Access Agent, the NAC identifies whether networked devices are
compliant with our network's security policies and repairs any
vulnerabilities before permitting access to the network. This includes
anti-virus checking, Windows updates and other vulnerabilities which can
interrupt network service.
Do I have to use Cisco Clean
Access?
In order to have full access to the internet and MC network, installation of
the Cisco Clean Access Agent is required. Those not wishing to use
Cisco Clean Access Agent or guests of the College may click the "Guest
Access" for 30 minutes of internet access. This access is limited to
port 80 and 443 traffic only. Users who do not wish to use the Clean
Access system at all are free not to do so, but will not receive network
access of any sort at MC.
How do I login?
Faculty, Staff and students need only enter their credentials in the
box to the left. Guests of the college, or any other user without
proper credentials may select "guest access" for limited internet
connectivity.
What
Validation Checks are being performed?
Cisco Clean Access interrogates each user/computer for three things:
What if I
need to update my computer to pass validation?
Cisco Clean Access Agent allows users 30 minutes of free internet usage
to upgrade their computers with any failed checks. This includes
installation of an Anti-Virus product, update of one's anti-virus
definitions, Windows Updates or Automatic Update.
Can I
use my Palm/SmartPhone/XBOX/Playstation/Nintendo/Etc.?
Yes. Users needing access with non-traditional network devices such as
those above, need only supply the MAC address of the network device to the
IT department. Instructions for a few common devices can be found
here: MAC Addresses
Users need to contact the manufacturer of their device if they are unsure
how to retrieve the MAC address from it.
