These instructions are for users with Windows 2000 or XP Professional Edition who wish to connect to the SCOTS Domain.  This will connect your computer to the Internet and to your network drive, where you can store up to 20MB of data.  To connect your computer you will need to have a 10/100 Ethernet Card Installed. If you do not have one installed you can purchase one at several local stores including Staples, Wal-Mart, etc

1. From your desktop (the initial screen you see when Windows has started) right-click on the icon entitled My Network Places.  The left-click on the properties option on the menu that pops up.  If you do not have My Network Places (or a closely named icon), go to Start-Settings-Control Panel-Network

2. Right click on the “Local Area Connection” icon and select properties.  After doing so, you should see a menu such as the one below.

Make sure you have Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Printer Sharing and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) installed. If not, just hit the install button, select Client to install Microsoft Network Client, Service to install File and Printer Sharing or Protocol to install TCP/IP.  Once all 3 of these are installed, highlight TCP/IP by left clicking on it one time, and click the properties button.

3. In the above menu, make sure Obtain IP Address Automatically is selected, as well as obtain DNS Server automatically.  If this is the case, hit the advanced button on this menu, and make sure the DHCP Enabled is listed in the white box of the advanced menu screen.  Also click on the WINS and DNS tabs to make sure that no gateways are installed, if so, simply click on the them, and hit the remove button.  Once this is completed, simply click Ok three times to bring you back to the desktop, and completely out of the network menus.

4.  Once back at the desktop, right-click on My Computer and select properties.  If My Computer is not an icon on your desktop, you can go to Start-Settings-Control Panel-System.  Once in the Systems Properties menu, select the Network Identification tab, as shown on the left.  Select Properties.  Under computer name, type a name for your computer.  Click the “Domain” button, and type the word SCOTS in the domain box.  Hit OK, and the computer should provide you with a prompt for username and password.  Enter your SCOTS domain username and password, hit ok, and reboot the computer.

You are finished!
